Turf we install
-
Turf lawns
We install turf in front yards, side yards, and backyards. We cut out the old grass, compact a base of crushed stone or decomposed granite, lay and seam the turf, and brush in infill.

Pet turf
Dog runs and whole yards can use pet turf with a backing that lets urine drain through quickly. We add odor-control infill such as zeolite and build the area so you can rinse it down.

Putting greens
A backyard putting green uses short-pile putting turf over firm, compacted base rock. We cut fringe turf in around the edge and set the cups where you want them.

Playground turf
Under swing sets and play structures, we install turf over a shock-absorbing pad. The turf-and-pad system should come with ASTM F1292 test data showing a critical height rating at or above the equipment’s fall height.

Pricing
How we handle pricing
We publish the ranges printed by HomeGuide, Angi, HomeAdvisor, LawnStarter, Lawn Love, and Thumbtack in our cost guide, with a source and year for each one. These are national figures, and they vary by publisher, so we keep each number tied to where it came from. Our calculator adds up Angi’s 2026 component ranges for your square footage.
Angi says “turf type, installation area size, and the extent of ground prep required” affect what a yard costs. Slopes, curved edges, and how easy it is to get equipment into the yard also matter. We measure the yard before we put a number on the job.

The process
How an install goes
- 1
Measure
We measure the square footage and note slopes, curved edges around beds and trees, and the gate or path equipment must use, since each affects the labor.
- 2
Remove
We cut out the existing grass and dig out at least 3 to 4 inches of soil with it. Then we haul off the grass and dirt.
- 3
Base
We spread 3 to 4 inches of crushed stone or decomposed granite over the dug-out area, then make several passes in different directions with a plate compactor.
- 4
Turf
We roll the turf out over the base, cut it to fit the edges, and join the seams with seam tape.
- 5
Infill
We spread infill, which is sand or granules, over the turf at about 1 pound per square foot. A power broom brushes it between the blades for stability, cushioning, and drainage.
Service area
Where we install
We install artificial turf in Austin and nearby towns across Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties, from Georgetown to the north, Lakeway and Dripping Springs to the west, and Buda and Kyle to the south. Austin Water’s rebate doesn’t cover artificial turf, and Texas HOA law doesn’t specifically protect it, as explained in our Austin service area.

FAQ
Questions about artificial turf
How much does artificial turf cost to install?
HomeGuide’s 2025 cost guide puts installed turf at $10 to $25 per square foot for materials and labor. HomeAdvisor’s 2026 figures give a normal whole-project range of $3,244 to $8,711, with an average of $5,781. Where your yard falls depends on its size, the ground prep it needs, and the turf, as the turf cost guide explains.
How long does artificial turf last?
Artificial turf can last 15 to 25 years with proper maintenance, according to HomeGuide’s 2025 guide, though published estimates differ. The pros and cons guide lists those lifespans side by side, including Angi’s 2026 estimate of 10 to 20 years. HomeAdvisor’s 2026 estimate is 5 to 10 years, or about 3 years in high-traffic areas.
Does artificial turf get hot in a Texas summer?
Yes, artificial turf gets much hotter than grass in full sun. UC Cooperative Extension (Janet Hartin) measured home synthetic lawns in Palm Springs, California, at up to 173°F, while plants measured 90°F to 100°F. The pros and cons guide cites surface measurements taken in California, Utah, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, with none from Texas.
Is artificial turf good for dogs?
Yes, pet turf can work for dogs when it’s built for them. It needs backing that drains quickly, odor-control infill such as zeolite (infill is sand or granules brushed between the blades), and regular rinsing. Angi’s 2026 estimate says turf lasts about 10 to 15 years with dogs, and Angi warns that it holds heat and can burn paw pads.
Does Austin Water give a rebate for artificial turf?
No, Austin Water doesn’t give a rebate for artificial turf. Austin Water’s WaterWise Landscaping rebate guide lists artificial turf as “Not eligible for the rebate.” Austin Water’s rebate is for converting a lawn where at least 75% of the area is healthy grass to water-wise landscaping, and our cost guide’s rebates and rules section covers the rebate and Texas HOA law.
